{"id":296,"date":"2023-11-05T14:31:00","date_gmt":"2023-11-05T14:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.ryanfatica.com\/?p=296"},"modified":"2024-07-08T14:35:24","modified_gmt":"2024-07-08T14:35:24","slug":"die-in-at-raytheon-compound-in-tucson-calls-out-complicity-in-gaza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.ryanfatica.com\/?p=296","title":{"rendered":"Die-In at Raytheon Compound in Tucson Calls Out Complicity in Gaza"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Ryan Fatica<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tucson, AZ \u2014 Raytheon employees on their way to work Thursday morning were confronted with an unusual spectacle \u2014 about 120 people, dressed in all black, lying in the road covered in white sheets, blocking one of the entrances to U.S. Air Force Plant 44, operated by Raytheon Missiles and Defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their reactions were mixed: many made U-turns and drove around to the Raytheon compound\u2019s north entrance, some shouted obscenities, others looked on woodenly. Some may even have honked in support, although it\u2019s hard to tell if those who cheered the action were employees of the nation\u2019s second largest munitions manufacturer or just passersby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The action, which lasted about an hour and a half, was coordinated by a coalition of Tucson groups operating under the banner of the Tucson Coalition for Palestine, including Arizona Palestine Solidarity Alliance, Jewish Voice for Peace, and Derechos Humanos. The action was intended to call attention to the ongoing invasion of Gaza by Israeli military forces and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barrons.com\/news\/health-ministry-in-hamas-run-gaza-says-war-death-toll-hits-9-488-92b89b53\">more than 9,000 lives<\/a> it has already claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Die-In at Raytheon Compound in Tucson Calls Out Complicity in Gaza\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/B-D25N-tiU4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Raytheon, whose parent corporation RTX Technologies is Tucson\u2019s largest employer with over 12,000 local workers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2023\/10\/08\/israel-attack-what-is-the-iron-dome-and-how-does-it-work\/920a8e92-65d8-11ee-9753-2b3742e96987_story.html\">began supplying<\/a> components to Israel\u2019s Iron Dome missile system in 2014.
