{"id":318,"date":"2024-05-30T14:58:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-30T14:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.ryanfatica.com\/?p=318"},"modified":"2024-07-08T15:00:21","modified_gmt":"2024-07-08T15:00:21","slug":"inside-enclave-rabia-caracol-an-anarchist-community-center-and-cafe-in-tijuana-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.ryanfatica.com\/?p=318","title":{"rendered":"Inside Enclave Rabia Caracol \u2014 An Anarchist Community Center and Cafe in Tijuana, Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Ryan Fatica<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tijuana, Mexico \u2014 In the heart of downtown Tijuana, less than a kilometer from the San Yisidro Port of Entry and blocks away from the most popular nightlife and tourist areas of the city, migrants rest on the stairs of a caf\u00e9 while passersby lean on the bar, sipping what may be the best and cheapest espresso in the city.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The caf\u00e9, called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/enclavecaracol\/\">Enclave Rabia Caracol<\/a>, is run by a collective and organized around anarchist values\u2014a commitment to non-hierarchical relationships, autonomy, mutual aid, and self-determination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enclave <strong>\u201cwas founded on anarchist principles\u201d<\/strong> said Betania, a longtime volunteer and friend of the project. And it has <strong>\u201ctried to reject any kind of authority or hierarchy. They\u2019ve kept trying to maintain their anarchist principles and to defend themselves as an anarchist space.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On a given day, the five story building (including basement and roof top rooms) houses a variety of projects and dozens of people pass through its open doors.<strong>\u201cWe have a caf\u00e9, we have a community kitchen where we prepare the free meals.
